Egg on your face

If you’re into do-it-yourself and natural remedies for your beauty care, incorporating eggs into your routine is no secret. In fact, the history of eggs in skincare dates back as early as 3000 B.C., when people in China used it for nail polish. But there’s a reason this home trick has lasted for so long – it has plenty of benefits at a low cost.

For starters, the yolk is packed with nutrients, including proteins, vitamins and fatty acids. These act as a natural emulsifying agent, antioxidant, and moisturiser which hydrates your skin and hair. Egg whites also contain protein, specifically one called albumin, which helps tighten pores, clear blackheads and cleanse the skin.

Making an egg white mask is fast and easy – simply separate the whites from the yolks of two eggs and whisk until frothy. If you want to add a cleansing effect to the mask, add a bit of lemon juice to the bowl. Then smooth the whites in an upward motion on your face, applying liberally. Let it dry for about 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

If you want to get a bit fancier, beat one whole egg in a bowl, then slowly add 125ml of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of honey to the mixture, until it has a similar consistency to mayonnaise. Spoon the mixture into an empty cardboard toilet paper roll that is upright in a small bowl and let it set in the freezer overnight. In the morning, it should be a solid stick. After peeling away the cardboard, smooth the stick over your face and leave on for five to 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and keep the stick covered with plastic wrap before you put it back in the freezer.

With either one of these recipes, you’ll be able to feel your skin start to tighten, see more of a glow, and diminish wrinkles. The egg masks will also remove dead skin cells, including whiteheads, which block pores.

The one caveat of all this is that using egg on your face is just a temporary solution. These masks will most likely not produce any long-term results, but are perfect if you want a short-term benefit of smaller pores, tighter skin and a smoother complexion.
