God’s own Hospital: Aster Medcity
Former president APJ Abdul Kalam dedicated this to the nation
God’s own Hospital: Aster Medcity
Kochi, May 6: If Kerala has become the diabetes capital of the country, Aster Medcity in Kochi idyll is undoubtedly the ‘God’s own hospital’.
Aster Medcity, a jewel in the healthcare landscape of the country, was on May 6 dedicated to the nation by former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam. As its founder, Dr. Azad Moopen made it known that APJ himself was the inspiration behind Aster Medcity, compassion is going to be the integral part of this hospital.
The ambience makes this hospital unique in the world. The fascinating waterfront lined with abundance of green trees gives Aster Medcity a pristine look. The ICUs of the hospital have been placed such as when a patient in the ICU opens his eyes; they are caught by the fascinating scenery spreading in front. Aster Medcity CEO, Dr. Harish Pillai, carries the conviction that the ambience is a therapeutic effect on the patient.
Talking to Meditoall editor Dhananjay Kumar, who was witness to the dedication function, Dr. Pillai said, ‘Dr. Azad Moopen dreamed Mayo Clinic kind of health facility in India. Kochi Aster Medcity, the flagship venture of his DM healthcare conglomerate in India and Middle East, is a tribute to his dream. The hospital possesses all that is best in the world. It is just the beginning.’
Kerala, flaunted as God’s own country, has recently earned a worrisome sobriquet. According to Dr. Pillai, Kerala has become the diabetes capital of India as India is the diabetes capital of the world. Diabetes being mother of all diseases, we can well say – Kerala is on the brink of becoming ‘Diseases’ own country’. Seen in this light, Aster Medcity can be looked at as boon for the state and ‘God’s own Hospital’.
Dr. Azad Moopen, a Keralite by birth and a Dubai-based healthcare tycoon was awarded with Indian civil honor Padmashree. Touched by this, Dr. Azad, a great philanthropist, announced 20 percent of his massive wealth for the poor patients of India.
To mark the occasion, over 1000 Aster Medicity staff pledged to donate their organs to sustain life and be of service to the humanity. Envisaged as a medical township, the first phase of Medicity has one multispecialty hospital and eight separate Centres of Excellence.
Speaking at the event, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam said, ‘I have granted my support and admiration for the technological developments that I see in India across various sectors. Being at Aster Medcity, I realize that the healthcare services in India are certainly progressing towards achieving technological expertise and experience. It is surely a destination for advanced healthcare services. The most important element is to provide better accessibility and I am happy to note that organizations like Aster DM Healthcare are doing their bit by providing quality and accessible healthcare.’
The Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Oommen Chandy said, ‘Kerala has always been known for its traditional healthcare services. With Aster Medcity, the State has a new facility that it can be proud of – especially in terms of its technological advantages – this will certainly be a landmark. The infrastructure and the facility is certainly a new landmark in Kerala. The cost effective services along with connectivity from roadways, airways and waterways, makes this place accessible for all.’
Dr. Moopen said, ‘This is a significant milestone in the Aster DM Healthcare journey of providing healthcare services in India and abroad. What started as a dream project that was nurtured deep within has now turned into a reality. With this we aim to deliver the best of mainstream modern medical treatment with care, compassion and a simple promise that We’ll Treat You Well, in every possible way.’
